WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC
Chiropractic is a regulated healthcare profession focused on diagnosing and treating problems with muscles, joints, and the nervous system - particularly the spine. It's been around for well over a century and is one of the most widely used forms of complementary healthcare in the UK.
Chiropractors are primary contact practitioners, which means you don't need a GP referral to see one. You can book directly.
What does a chiropractor actually do?
A good chiropractic consultation is more thorough than people often expect. At Nessie Chiropractic, your first appointment is a full 60 minutes. That time goes into taking a detailed history, understanding how your problem developed, a physical examination, and - where appropriate - starting treatment in the same session.
Treatment typically involves hands-on manipulation and mobilisation of the spine and other joints, alongside soft tissue work, therapeutic exercises, and advice on posture, movement, and lifestyle. Every patient at Nessie Chiropractic also receives a personalised rehabilitation programme to support their recovery between appointments.
What conditions can chiropractic help with?
Chiropractors are best known for treating back and neck pain, but the scope is broader than that. Common presentations include sciatica, sports injuries, cervicogenic headaches and migraines, shoulder and hip problems, and general joint and muscle pain. If you're not sure whether chiropractic is right for your particular problem, feel free to get in touch and we'll give you an honest answer.
Is chiropractic safe?
Yes, in the hands of a qualified and registered chiropractor. Like any manual therapy, some patients experience mild soreness after treatment - this is normal and usually settles within a day or two. Serious complications are rare.
Regulation and training
Chiropractic is regulated by law in the UK under the Chiropractors Act 1994. The title "chiropractor" is legally protected - it's illegal to use it without being registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC). Training involves a five year Masters level degree programme followed by a year of supervised practice before a chiropractor can work independently.
Lars is registered with the GCC (Reg. 02567) and completes ongoing Continuing Professional Development each year to stay current with the latest research and practice.
